Christie’s

As an in-house producer on the Content Team at Christie’s, I told award-winning stories about art and artists. Here are some of my favorite pieces.

Studio Visit with Artist Khari Turner

Khari’s work uses water sourced from locations significant to Black Americans and members of the African diaspora. After filming a visit with him at his studio in Bushwick, my crew and I hopped in a Lyft and filmed him collecting a sample from New York Harbor using a GoPro.

Studio Visit with Dread Scott

In anticipation of his landmark art piece, “White Male for Sale,” we visited Dread Scott at his studio in Brooklyn, and I interviewed him about his artistic practice and philosophy. This piece combines the new footage with significant archival media from the last three decades of Dread Scott’s career.

Journey Through 21st Century Existential Crisis - Studio Visit With the Creators of ‘Arcadia’

Possibly the most logistically complicated piece I’ve ever produced. The three artists involved in this collaboration live in three different countries: RAC lives in the United States, Andres Reisinger lives in Spain, and Arch Hades lives in London.

I remote organized three parallel shoots with different production crews in each location, and interviewed each artist via Zoom (on two occasions, getting up at 4am to accommodate the time zone differences!)

Studio Visit with Artist Ronald Jackson

With this piece, our challenge was to acknowledge and honor the complicated and frequently harrowing stories Ronald Jackson’s work draws upon, without also sensationalizing or commodifying that history at the same time.

Taking the straight-on gaze of his subjects as a conceptual starting point, we opted for a slow approach to this piece and match cut images of his work with portraits of the artist himself in various settings, and also incorporated archival media of his family as well as his time serving in the military.

FEWOCiOUS on His Life in Art and NFTs

Victor (a.k.a. FEWOCiOUS) visited us at Christie’s in June 2021 to tell us about his practice. The body of work he showed us took us through his childhood and adolescence, coming to terms with his trans identity.

In keeping with the theme of “self creation,” I asked Victor to draw for us on his tablet while we projected the artwork live across his body, and combined the resulting footage with archival media and a sit down interview.

The Rosenberg Collection

Elaine and Alexandre Rosenberg had one of the world’s foremost collections of illuminated manuscripts and incunabula. I proposed we bring the the collection’s Books of Hours to life with animation.

This piece was animated by Fgreat Studio.

Studio Visit with Artist Cary Fagan

Created during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, this piece was produced entirely remotely, with the artist filming himself in his Houston apartment, while I asked him questions via Zoom.

Instead of fighting the informal quality of the resulting footage, I worked with editor Azizi Rodney to collage together archival media provided by Fagan, resulting in a dreamy exploration of the artist’s body of work.

This piece was nominated for a 2021 Webby Award in Video (Unscripted).

Studio Visit with Artist Accra Shepp

In March 2020, during the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic in New York City, Accra Shepp picked up a camera and began to photograph essential workers on the front lines at Elmhurst Hospital, Queens. Later, in the summer, he documented protesters during the Black Lives Matter demonstrations.

My crew and I visited Accra’s home studio, and joined him on a walk through his neighborhood, while he told us about his process and philosophy of photography.

Jean-Michel Basquiat's 'MP' Visits His Eponymous Portrait After 35 Years

Michael Patterson, a.k.a. MP, the subject of Basquiat’s eponymous portrait, came to NYC in order to visit the painting in person in Christie’s Rockefeller galleries.

My crew and I filmed MP catching sight of the painting for the first time in decades, and were able to ask him questions about meeting Basquiat in the 80’s.

This piece was the 2021 Gold Telly Winner in Branded Content: Documentary: Individual.

Wayne Thiebaud’s 100th Birthday

In honor of Thiebaud’s centennial birthday, the artist spoke with Crown Point Press founder Kathan Brown about his technique, career, and collaboration with the San Francisco-based printmaking studio spanning nearly 60 years.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was unsafe for the two friends to meet in person, so I organized a remote conversation between the two of them, and filmed the result. We combined the footage with archival media of the two of them working together at CPP, with a heartwarming result.

This video won the 2021 Silver Telly for Branded Content: Remote Production.

Hurting the Word Radio

A creative interpretation of the painting “Hurting the Word Radio II” by Ed Ruscha (1964). I sourced a pile of vintage radios, and slow motion filmed my team smashing them with a Phantom Camera.
